The Prairie Creek Piper gives the reader glimpses of growing up in the 20th century. These 36 stories are told with the hope that our children and grandchildren will understand and appreciate their heritage. Fellow seniors will fondly remember the stories related here with pride, laughter and tears.

The authors were born in the 1920s and 1930s and were forever impacted by The Great Depression. Banks failed. Dust storms buried our prairie. The grasshoppers devoured everything in sight. Money was scarce and jobs were hard to come by. We were often hungry for food and a better life. More of us were graduating from high school. Some of us joined the military before graduating to fight the war that had to be won, World War II.

The hopes and dreams of earlier generations burned in our souls. Our troops came home and through the GI Bill attended college. Many of us worked our way through college and trade schools. Careers and opportunities opened to us that we could not have imagined during grade school days.

And, with hard work, faith and sacrifice, we are survivors! We live THE AMERICAN DREAM!
